SOFTWARE:
Bryce 3D 3.1, Corel Photo-Paint 8, TTM RENDER TIME: About 4 hours (1024x768, 300MHz PII) DESCRIPTION: Two things had just occurred as I began this project: 1. I had just read Steven Sanvito's excellent tutorial on creating 'Crescent Planets'. Thanks, Steven! 2. I had also just seen Ken Musgrave's beautiful image 'Blessed State'. I had been wanting to try something similar for quite a while, and seeing Ken's image put me over the edge. You can see it in his landscapes gallery. This image ('Mirage') is one of my favorites, and shows up regularly as my desktop background. It seems to impart a soothing sense of serenity and well-being. There are several different versions with various foregrounds and skies, but this is my favorite, clean and simple. TECHNICAL: There are 3 terrains (unmodified), 1 sphere, and a ground plane using the 'Mirror' material. The sun is the only light source. The planet's material is a texture created with Teralogic Texture Maker, and is part of the Galactic Worlds Texture Gallery. Click here to see the original texture. ABOUT THE RENDERING: The original rendering was made at 1024x768 (72 dpi), then resampled and converted in Corel PhotoPaint 8 to produce the smaller 640x480 and 800x600 JPG versions. |
